Thinger

My first Oblivion character was a Redguard Pilgrim that reached level 6 by hitting things with a mace. Dying pretty much continuously, crap magic capacity, beat to shit after almost every encounter. Technically a bad choice in retrospect, I learned the basics of combat and realized what I really wanted was MOAR MAGIC. Restarted using this as a guide. Breton born under Magician, tagged Armorer, Destruction, Light Armor, Blades, Mysticism, Sneak, Illusion.

Started off kicking ass and chewing bubblegum - hit level six as a Thinger in one play session compared to the two it took for a Pilgrim. Stat increases on level up slowly decreased from 5/5/4 down to 3/2/2 on my most recent. It's clear I still have a lot to learn about Oblivion's leveling process - while I'm far from optimized this time around, I'm having a hell of a lot more fun and I'm actually killing shit without getting completely humped in the process.

Or I was, until around level 4. I apparently I need to train the various Armors and Block and whatnot more than I have been, and I need to keep consistent with my kill methods (eg blast them to death with Destruction as opposed to blast them to almost-death with Destruction and finish them off with Blade).

TES4 : Oblivion GOTY with DLC Ultra II Turbo Special Champion Edition was a ~$6.50 Midweek Madness buy on Steam last week. The price of a tall Whiskey at the dive bar - and in that context, I've already gotten my money's worth. And I still haven't taken the damned Amulet Of Plot to wherever it needs to get to.
